The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, and the Smart Cities Association announced on the 6th that they held the 'City Challenge and Regional Base Project Performance Sharing Session' at KINTEX 1st Market in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 8th.

This day's event was one of the main programs of 'WSCE 2023' (World Smart City Expo 2023) and was held to share the results of smart city development projects such as the Smart City Challenge.

MOLIT has been promoting this project since 2018 with the aim of building a smart city model that suits local conditions and demands. We are currently carrying out the final main project of the third period and are focusing on discovering and building comprehensive solutions necessary to solve problems throughout the city, centered on the private sector.

At this performance sharing meeting, the performances of 1 local governments that participated in the 3st to 10rd City Challenge projects and 4 local governments in regional base projects were exchanged. Models such as ‘Establishment of Shin-Ulsan 4 Smart City for a leap forward in the 4.0th industrial revolution’ and ‘Mobility experience city, adventure city Taean’ received favorable reviews.

Local governments selected for this year's 'hub and small smart city development project' - Ulsan Metropolitan City, Goyang Special City, Pyeongtaek City, Mokpo City, Asan City, and Taean County - also participated in the performance sharing meeting, showing local governments' high interest in smart city construction.

A MOLIT official said, “As a follow-up project to the City Challenge, we have been promoting the ‘Regional Base Smart City Creation Project’ since last year. We will increase sustainability by comprehensively making the city smarter and discovering business models.”
