Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 13th that it held the 'Smart Tourism City Creation Project Launch Ceremony' at the parking lot of the Hwangridan-gil Living Culture Center in Gyeongju, with the participation of Gyeongbuk Province, Gyeongju City, Korea Tourism Organization, and heads of related organizations.

The smart tourism city creation project is a project to build a smart tourism system by linking Gyeongju's abundant tourism resources and cutting-edge technology with a total project cost of 70 billion won.

With the smart tourism city launch ceremony, Gyeongju City presented a new model for tourism and announced its leap forward as a global smart tourism city where domestic and foreign tourists can tour Gyeongju more conveniently.

The launch ceremony began with a congratulatory performance by Shilla Gochi University, followed by a progress report on the smart tourism city creation project, followed by the screening of a promotional video for 'Gyeongju ON*' and a tour of the traveler's lounge.

* 'Gyeongju ON' is an app that any traveler can use from the travel preparation stage to the post-travel stage through an integrated tourism platform. ▲Smart service (artificial intelligence (AI)-based multilingual, audio guide) ▲Smart convenience (augmented reality ( Contains contents such as (AR) store scan, docent tour) ▲ smart experience (gamification, media wall) ▲ smart mobility (KTX-city movement, city tour)

In addition, the Hwangridan-gil Traveler's Lounge, a combination of online and offline located on the main street of Hwangridan-gil, provides travel information through real-time conversations between travelers and business operators using Metaverse.

In addition, media facades and gamification* linked to tourist attractions around Hwangridan-gil (Daereungwon, Cheomseongdae, Donggung and Wolji, Woljeong Bridge, etc.) are introduced to provide smart attractions that combine the past and present.

* Gamification: Thinking of something that is not a game like a game and adding fun elements to make it like a game.

We plan to continue to increase the completeness and usage rate of the 'Gyeongju ON' mobile app through upgrading projects over the next two years, and also expand content activation businesses such as accommodation, tourism, transportation, restaurants, and experiences.

Kim Sang-cheol, Director of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “We hope that Gyeongju, with its thousand-year history, will merge with smart technology to present a new tourism model unique to Gyeongbuk Province.” He added, “We will do our best to ensure that this model becomes the standard for global smart tourism.” “We will do our best,” he said.
