□ The Seoul Metropolitan Government is joining hands with ‘Cyber ​​Valley’, which is considered the largest artificial intelligence research consortium in Europe, to speed up support for overseas expansion and scale-up of domestic artificial intelligence (AI) startups. After concretizing a cooperation project with Canada's MILA AI Research Institute, a global research institute in the field of deep learning, last year, we will begin building an artificial intelligence cooperation network in Europe this year.

○ This agreement (February 2.15) is a tripartite business between ‘Seoul AI Hub (Director Ham Jong-min), Cyber ​​Valley (Director Rebecca C. Reich), and Seoul National University AI Research Institute (Director Jang Byeong-tak) at Cyber ​​Valley headquarters (Tübingen, Germany). It was carried out through an agreement (MOU).

□ Cyber ​​Valley was established in 2016 to foster innovation and renowned scientists in basic academic fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. It has 85 research faculty members from universities in the Tübingen and Stuttgart regions and the Max Planck Institute, which is world-renowned in the fields of natural science and computer science.

○ The main institutions leading Cyber ​​Valley include academic and research institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, the University of Stuttgart and the University of Tübingen, as well as various industrial institutions such as private companies such as Amazon, BMW Group and Robert Bosch, not only in Europe but also around the world. It is one of the areas in the artificial intelligence research ecosystem that is attracting attention.

○ The amount invested in Cyber ​​Valley by all these related organizations, including industry, academia, and foundations, amounts to approximately KRW 2,218 billion to date.

 

□ ‘Seoul AI Hub’ is a specialized organization for fostering technology startups in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government since 2017.
