The 'AI Strategy Highest Threat Council' was launched to bring together the public and private sectors to become one of the top three artificial intelligence (AI) powers.
Through this, the government promotes AI technology innovation that will lead the global market, carries out large-scale R&D projects, fosters high-quality talent, and builds AI-native networks. In addition, we decided to establish and promote a customized AI introduction and diffusion strategy that takes into account the characteristics of each industry and industry.
In addition, with the advent of the AI era, we will accelerate the promotion of national, industrial, and public projects so that people can experience the benefits of AI in their daily lives.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 4th that the AI Strategy Highest Level Council, the highest level governance of public and private AI, has been launched.
Korea has continued to make policy efforts, such as establishing strategies to innovate AI technology and strengthen industrial competitiveness. In the process, in order to reflect and utilize the creative ideas and excellent capabilities of the private sector in policies, we have been operating public-private consultative bodies in various fields such as AI semiconductors, laws and systems, ethics, and talent development.
However, with the emergence of generative AI, its influence is expanding beyond industry and into the humanities and social fields, triggering multi-layered and complex issues.
Accordingly, MSIT agreed that governance was needed to lead the direction of AI innovation across the country from an interconnected and integrated perspective, and thus launched the AI Strategy High-level Council.
The AI Strategy Supreme Council is co-chaired by Minister of MSIT and Taejae University President Jae-ho Yeom from the private sector, and consists of 23 top private sector experts representing the AI field including general policy, AI semiconductors, R&D, law and system, ethics and safety, and human resources, as well as MSIT, MOEF, and MOTIE. It was launched with a total of 7 people, including 32 head-level civil servants from major related ministries such as MSS, Ministry of Education, Personal Information Commission, and Korea Communications Commission.
The council will play a role in not only expanding infrastructure such as AI talent and AI semiconductors and preoccupying future source technologies such as AI R&D, but also providing policy suggestions and advice on overall safe AI use policies, including AI ethics. The contents discussed at the council are jointly prepared and implemented by the subcommittee, MSIT, and the relevant ministries.
In particular, the Super AI Promotion Council, which consists of more than 100 super large domestic AI companies and small and medium-sized businesses and startups, is established as an external private advisory group to collect policy suggestions such as government investment and support to implement an AI innovation ecosystem and to communicate regularly between the public and private sectors. This strategy contains key policy tasks and directions in four areas: innovation, industry, society, and systems.

◆ Promoting national, industrial, and public projects to make AI everyday life
MSIT is carrying out 7102 tasks by investing a total of 69 billion won in the spread of AI in daily life, industrial sites, and government administration so that the public can feel the benefits of AI.
First, a total of 755 billion won will be invested to spread AI happiness in people's daily lives to promote 18 tasks.
We plan to support the introduction of AI in areas such as health and disease management and care for the disabled and the elderly, which are in high demand from the public but are difficult for the private sector to provide, as well as the introduction of AI in areas such as childcare, education, culture, and housing.
To promote AI convergence and integration in the workplace, including workers, 2881 billion won will be invested to implement 24 tasks.
The plan is to support innovation in the production environment based on AI in the manufacturing and agricultural fields, such as process efficiency and gradual automation, while quickly promoting the discovery and expansion of AI services in private professional fields where effects can be seen quickly, such as law.
1157 billion won will be invested to internalize AI in public administration to pursue 14 tasks.
In order to prepare for the era of living with AI, we will pursue 2309 tasks, including investing 13 billion won in improving people's AI utilization capabilities and expanding safe AI-based infrastructure, including AI ethics.
